Adapting to a New Life in Canada:

What No One Tells You About Mental Well-Being After the Move

English Session – April 16 2026
@ 12:00 pm

French Session – April 17 2026
@ 6:00 pm

About the Workshop

Moving to a new country can be both exciting and overwhelming. This workshop explores the emotional and psychological effects of immigration—culture shock, identity shifts, adaptation fatigue, and the stressors that newcomers often experience silently.
Through accessible explanations and real-life examples, participants will learn how to recognize emotional challenges, build resilience, and reconnect with their purpose for coming to Canada.

Facilitators

Aurélie (French session):

Born and raised in Paris, France, Aurelie Ky is the daughter of parents who immigrated from Cambodia in the 1980s. She studied psychology and neuroscience in the United States, where she learned English, and later earned a master’s degree in neuroscience in Canada (McGill University). Now based back in France, she has worked for six years as an online French and English language tutor. She also created Education Monsters, a podcast on multicultural education that explores traveling, studying or working abroad, discrimination, anti-racism, and challenging stereotypes, and she is currently writing children’s books about emotions and neuroscience.
Language Tutor: Aurelie teaches French and English online in a relaxed and easygoing way. As a native Parisian, she offers French courses with a natural Parisian accent. With a French-American background and years of experience, she helps students feel confident and comfortable speaking both languages.

Ruchika (English session):

Ruchika Bhattacharya is a mental health educator and community advocate with a Master’s degree in Psychiatry from McGill University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Stony Brook University. As someone who has immigrated across continents, she combines academic training with lived experience to shed light on the emotional, cultural, and mental health challenges of immigration. Her work focuses on normalizing these experiences and helping individuals build resilience through awareness, connection, and community.
Happy Hour with Chica: Happy Hour with Chica is a mental wellness initiative focused on reducing loneliness and anxiety through simple, shared moments of connection. It creates low-pressure spaces for people, especially newcomers, to feel seen, supported, and grounded through everyday activities and conversation.
